How to set up a Kids Glow in the Dark Party?

Step 1 - Where to set up a kids glow in the dark party?

Choose an area to set up your kids glow in the dark party that will be as dark as possible. The darker the room or party space, the better and brighter everything will glow. Ensure that there will be no sunlight or white light shining into the room for maximum affect. You can do this by covering windows with black builders plastic. If you need to cover a doorway, but still use it as an entry or exit, you can hang black plastic over the doorway and then cut thin vertical lines from the bottom up towards the top to create a dark walk through curtain.

Can I have a kids glow in the dark party outdoors?

If you don't want crazy, screaming with excitement kids running through your house, you can have a kids glow in the dark party outdoors. If you have a garage or shed, these outdoor areas would be perfect. Alternatively, you could wrap large sheets of black plastic around a patio area or gazebo. The black plastic can then be used to spray paint neon fluorescent party decorations or become large drawing canvases for the kids to draw on with neon paint or glow in the dark pens. Included in the links below is a range of Amazon products that will help you with the set up of your own kids glow in the dark party.

Can I have a kids glow in the dark party in the day time?

Yes, you can create a kids glow in the dark party in the daytime by setting up in an area that lets in as little sunlight as possible. Ideal locations include sheds and garages, as they tend to have less windows and the entryway can be blocked off by the solid roller door or panel lift door. A basement is also a great choice. The next step is to use block out curtains or rolls of thick black plastic to block any light coming through the windows and doors creating the darkest space possible. Lastly, create a doorway that will block out light, but that you can still walk through. Hang a few sheets of black plastic from the top of the door and cutting vertical strips upwards from the bottom towards the top.

Step 2 - Which black lights do I use for a kids glow in the dark party?

For kids glow in the dark parties the Glowave Black Light Glow Party kit is the best choice. Each kit comes with 4 long length LED black lights. These black lights are designed to surround the party in UV light, with one on each wall, so that people, items, and decorations will glow from all angles. The LED black lights stick to the wall with an adhesive backing, making them super easy to set up. LED black lights are more powerful, more energy efficient, and longer lasting, than other black light types, such as black light bulbs or fluorescent tubes. The LED black lights are reusable and pack away into a small box for future use. For more information on black lights check out Glow Party World

Step 3 - Kids Glow in the Dark Party Decorations

The next step is to fill your party space with lots of neon colored items that will glow underneath the black lights. Fluorescent paper products and fabrics usually work well. These can be cut into party shapes and stuck or hung along the walls. You can also make your own party posters and signs using fluorescent paints and highlighter pens.  (Links to these items above). It's important to note that not everything that is fluorescent colored will glow. Some types of plastic will not illuminate the way that paper, paints, and most fabrics will. This is a good thing to know when choosing your glow in the dark decorations for your kids party. To give you a kick start, we have listed some of the best glow in the dark party decorations below.

Neon Glow in the dark play dough recipe

*2 cups of plain flour (all purpose)
*1/2 cup of salt 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
*1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
*Up to 1.5 cups of water
*Non-toxic neon acrylic paints (5 colors; 1 tablespoon of each)

1. Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl
2. Add the boiling water into the dry ingredients in small amounts and stir until it becomes a sticky dough.
3.Divide the dough into however many colors you wish to make.
4. Add one tablespoon of neon paint to the portions of dough and mix in until the colour has blended into the dough (you can add more paint if needed; turn on your Glowave LED black lights to make sure you are going to get a nice glow from the playdough).
5.Allow them to cool down then take them out of the bowl, add a touch more flour and knead vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone

NOTE: If the play-doh is still a bit sticky you can add more flour until it feels right

INGREDIENTS: (24 cupcakes)
*1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
*1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon tonic water
*6 cups confectioner's sugar
*3 ounce packet of Jello-O (yellow or green works best)
*1 cup boiling water
*1 cup chilled tonic water

1. Place the butter in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy.
2. Add 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon tonic water and 4 cups confectioner's sugar and mix until combined.
3.Add the remaining 2 cups confectioner's sugar and beat well.
Place the buttercream in a piping bag fitted with a large, round tip.
4. Pipe a large swirl of buttercream onto each cupcake.
5.Transfer the cupcakes to the fridge for at least an hour, until the buttercream is very stiff.
In the meantime, make the glaze.
6. Combine the Jell-o and boiling water and whisk until the jello has fully dissolved.
7. Add 1 cup chilled tonic water and whisk. Allow the Jell-o to cool to room temperature, but not so cool that it starts to set.
8. Dunk the cupcakes into the glaze so that only the buttercream is getting coated.
9. Place the cupcakes in the freezer until the glaze has set, then repeat 5 more times for a total of 6 layers of glaze. 6 layers will make the cupcakes glow the brightest!
Serve the cupcakes under a blacklight and watch them glow!

What to wear to a kids glow in the dark party?

Bright neon colored (fluorescent) clothes and white fabrics are the best things to wear to a kids glow in the dark party as they will glow the most. Be sure to put this detail on the party invitation so all of the kids can dress up in the correct clothes to illuminate under the black lights. To give the best effect, it is a good idea to try and include as many colors as possible into your outfit.
For example - Wear a fluorescent orange hat, green tie, yellow belt, white t-shirt,  pink pants and so on. Fluorescent paints also look amazing underneath black light so having a neon face painting station set up and temporary glow in the dark tattoos for the kids, will add to their outfits and excitement during the party!
